Joseph Maher, Jr. is a graduate of the University of Arizona and established his own architectural firm in 1983, Maher Architects, more recently recognized as, Joseph Maher, Jr. AIA Architects, stressing the trademarks of his personal commitment of consistent "personal service" along with his "passionate approach" to his clients and their architectural goals, adventures & positive results they share.
Joseph has been fortunate in his small firm to have gained extensive, diverse architectural project experience along with the privilege and honor of decades of community service in Southern Arizona and across the State of Arizona. His credentials reflect a comprehensive diversity of master planning, site and building analysis and feasibility studies along with the diverse and exciting concepts of creating user friendly, functionally cost as well as energy efficiently designed, sustainable architecture.
He relishes in the fact that he was on the forefront decades ago of the creation of the Solar, Environmental and now the Sustainable Revolution in architectural design and construction, especially for custom homes, additions and the growth as a whole for this critically important industry to Arizona, to America, and for the profession.
Joseph has been privileged to serve as the 2009 President of AIA Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Chair of AIA Southern Arizona Architecture Week from 2003 to 2009, Member of the City of Tucson, Planning Commission since 2008 and as Board member of Tucson Clean & Beautiful / "Trees for Tucson" since 2005. In addition, previously, he served on a Land Use Code (LUC) Subcommittee prior to its issue, and as a member of the City's Citizens Transit Advisory Committee (CTAC) for eight years, also servicing as Liaison to Downtown Links Committee from CTAC. Currently, Joseph is Liaison from the Planning Commission to the Grant Road Task Force Committee, and previously as a Liaison on the City of Tucson Water / Pima County Waste Water Commission.
He believes in "giving back to your community" which also includes in kind donations of his services to many local non-profit and religious organizations for many years.
